Creating a Dedicated Space for Art & Creativity
This London garden art studio was built to give the client a separate, peaceful space for creative work away from the main house. The aim was to create a proper year-round studio, not a seasonal garden building, with a strong insulated structure, practical electrics and plenty of natural light.
Because the building sits in the garden, the design needed to feel connected to the outside while still working as a private professional workspace. TRJ Construction managed the build from structure through to the finished studio, using SIP construction to create a warm, rigid and energy-efficient building envelope.
Designed Around How Artists Actually Work
Natural light is one of the most important considerations when designing a garden art studio. Unlike a standard garden office, an artist's studio can benefit from carefully positioned glazing, rooflights and controlled artificial lighting to create consistent working conditions throughout the day.
Every TRJ garden studio can be designed around the client's preferred working position, garden orientation and type of artwork, whether the space is being used for painting, drawing, photography, crafts or other creative work.
Why SIP Panels Are Ideal for a Garden Art Studio
A creative studio needs to be comfortable throughout the year, not just during summer. TRJ Construction builds garden studios using Structural Insulated Panels rather than lightweight seasonal garden-building construction.
Excellent Thermal Insulation
SIP construction creates a highly insulated building envelope, helping the studio maintain a comfortable temperature throughout winter and summer.
Comfortable Year-Round Workspace
Artists can leave canvases, equipment and materials inside without treating the studio as a seasonal summer house.
Strong Structural Construction
The structural SIP system creates a rigid building capable of accommodating large areas of glazing, rooflights and bespoke internal layouts.
Energy Efficient
Continuous insulation helps reduce heat loss and makes heating or air conditioning more efficient.
TRJ typically uses 125mm SIP walls with 150mm SIP roof and floor systems on its premium garden-room builds.

How Much Does a Garden Art Studio Cost?
Our bespoke SIP garden rooms currently start from approximately £1,400 per square metre including VAT. A typical 15m² creative studio therefore starts from around £21,000, while a 20m² studio starts from around £28,000.
The final price depends on glazing, foundations, electrical requirements, external finishes, plumbing, air conditioning, rooflights and the level of internal fit-out required.
Because every art studio is designed around the client and the site, we provide a detailed quotation following an initial discussion and site assessment.
Do You Need Planning Permission for a Garden Art Studio?
Many garden art studios can be constructed under permitted development rights, provided the building complies with the relevant limits relating to location, height, size and use.
For example, an outbuilding positioned within two metres of a boundary will normally be limited to a maximum overall height of 2.5 metres under permitted development rules. Different rules can apply to listed buildings, conservation areas and properties where permitted development rights have been removed.
TRJ Construction can assess the proposed building and advise whether permitted development or a planning application is the appropriate route.
Built by TRJ Construction - From Structure to Finished Studio
TRJ Construction designs and builds insulated garden rooms from the ground up, including SIP structure, roof, glazing, exterior finish, electrics and internal completion. This gives clients one team responsible for the finished studio rather than a disconnected collection of trades.
